At the beginning of the NFL offseason it looked like Aaron Rodgers being traded from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets was inevitable.
Several weeks later, doubt is beginning to creep in.
Even star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who has expressed interest in playing with Rodgers for years and appeared set on joining the Jets, decided to sign with the Baltimore Ravens instead.
There is a reason he wasn’t confident that New York would be able to get its guy.
According to Chris Robinson of Yahoo Sports, one roadblock continues to prevent this deal getting done.
“Green Bay is stuck on an asking price of a (second-round pick) this year and a (guaranteed first-round pick) next year,” Robinson said.
“They would be willing to do some sort of 2025 draft asset give-back if for some reason Aaron Rodgers doesn’t play in 2024. … For the Jets, it’s a standstill. The owner says, ‘Na, we’re not doing the straight-shot (first-round pick).’”
Apparently Jets owner Woody Johnson is worried about giving up too much for a guy in Rodgers who, by all accounts, could retire at any time.
“What Johnson’s problem is with this is that he looks at Denver and all the assets they gave up to bring Russell Wilson in thinking they’re gonna turn the key and everything was gonna be great,” Robinson continued.
“Now, Seattle’s sitting on Denver’s pick at No. 5 because (the Broncos) crashed and burned. There’s also some of the Matthew Stafford thing. Now he has the balky elbow and everything fell apart and suddenly Detroit is sitting at No. 6.”

It will be interesting to see how this whole saga ultimately unfolds.
While Rodgers’ personal life seems to be going great based on Mallory Edens’ latest photos, his professional life seems to be in a state of flux.
Will the Jets be able to get on the same page as the Packers and actually acquire Rodgers before the start of next season? Time will tell.
