Andy Reid Reveals Surprising Retirement Decision After Chiefs Win Title
Andy Reid revealed a surprising retirement decision after the Chiefs won a title this past Sunday night.
His decision? He’s not going anywhere.
Kansas City won its first Super Bowl in 50 years this past week.
Along with ending the Chiefs’ five decade championship drought, Reid also won his first championship since taking over as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999.
In fact, aside from one appearance that ended in a loss to the New England Patriots in 2004, Reid had never even made it to the Super Bowl prior to this season.
Now the 61-year-old has climbed to the top of the mountain, so nobody would blame him if he wanted to call it quits.
That is the furthest thing from Reid’s mind, though.
Following Kansas City’s big victory, Reid was asked if he was contemplating calling it quits.
“You know what, I really haven’t [thought about retirement],” he said.
“I still enjoy doing what I’m doing. I’ve got this young quarterback [Patrick Mahomes] over here that makes life easy for me every day. It’s a pleasure to come to work and have an opportunity to coach him and his teammates.”

Reid loves the organization he is a part of and wants to continue doing what he has been doing.
“[Chiefs General Manager] Brett Veach understands what it takes to win, No. 1, but also the kind of people that we enjoy to work with,” he continued.
“He brings those kinds of guys in and makes it enjoyable. So, I really haven’t gone there.”
Reid joined the Chiefs back in 2013 and has gone 43-21 since. In that span, he has made it to the posterason on three separate occasions.
In June, Kansas City locked him up with a five-year contract extension that will go through 2021.
“I’d like to thank Clark and the entire Hunt family for the opportunity to continue my coaching career here in Kansas City,” Reid said at the time.
“We’ve made quite a bit of progress over the last four seasons, but we are not done yet.
“We are going to continue to work towards our ultimate goal of winning championships.
“I’ve been blessed by the support of the community, our fans, the Hunt family and the entire Chiefs staff. I’m looking forward to the years ahead as the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.”
Reid likely will retire at some point during his time with the Chiefs, but is definitely not happening after this most recent Super Bowl run.
