Dillon Gabriel Takes Yet Another Direct Shot Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns quarterback competition intensified during Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles when rookie Dillon Gabriel made comments that appeared to target fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders.

Gabriel, competing alongside Sanders and veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett for the starting position, used a sideline interview to distinguish between what he called “entertainers” and “competitors.”

Sanders was absent from the Eagles game due to an oblique injury, allowing Gabriel and Tyler Huntley to handle quarterback duties against the defending Super Bowl champions.

Gabriel completed 13 of 18 passes for 143 yards with one interception in his performance, while the brewing tension between the rookie quarterbacks added another layer to Cleveland’s ongoing battle for the starting role ahead of their regular season opener against Cincinnati.

Dillon Gabriel Won’t Be Browns’ Week 1 Starter

Dillon Gabriel’s chances of becoming the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback for Week 1 appear slim following his preseason debut.

The rookie quarterback struggled against Philadelphia, throwing a costly pick-six that damaged his standing in the competition.

Current reports indicate the starting job will likely go to either Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett. Gabriel needed an exceptional preseason game performance to make a strong case for the QB1 position, but his showing fell short of those expectations.
