Jason Garrett Joining New York Giants?
Is Jason Garrett joining the New York Giants?
Early Tuesday morning reports began to emerge that Garrett was heading to the Big Apple.
Most assumed that this was a sign that the Giants were hiring him as their new head coach.
That was not in fact the case.
While New York’s interest in Garrett is real, it is not for their head coaching position. That went to New England Patriots special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach Joe Judge.
Rather, the reason New York requested permission from the Dallas Cowboys to speak to Garrett was to bring him on as an offensive coordinator.

ESPN NFL insider Ed Werder was the first to break this news.
Garrett is signed with the Cowboys through January 14, so while he is no longer the coach, he cannot interview elsewhere without the organization’s permission.
After serving as Dallas’ head coach for the better part of a decade, Garrett was relieved of his duties this past week.
Mike McCarthy was ultimately hired to become the next head coach of the Cowboys.
Prior to becoming the head coach for the better part of a decade, Garrett served as Dallas’ offensive coordinator from 2007-2010.
Meanwhile, Garrett’s ties to the Giants go all the way back to the early 2000s. From 2000 to 2003 he served as the team’s backup quarterback.
Based on how Garrett’s last stint as offensive coordinator went, it would not be particularly shocking to see him as the new Giants head coach in two years.
