Colt Brennan’s Dad Shares Disturbing Details About His Death
Former University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan died this past week. He was 37 years old.
Brennan’s abrupt passing shocked the sports world, prompting many to wonder what led up to his untimely death.
On Tuesday, his father Terry spoke to the Hawaii-Star Advertiser about precisely what happened to his son. As it turns out, he was found unconscious at a rehab facility prior to his passing.
“He was doing so well, the spark was back in his eyes, and he was healthy and doing great, and it happened,” he said. “These guys were no-nonsense guys. It just got away from him. I don’t know how else to explain it. Maybe one day I’ll be able to explain it better.”
That said, Brennan reportedly went peacefully.
“He went peacefully,” Terry continued. “He listened to Bob Marley. His sisters had a lei around him when he was unconscious. They had the music of Bob Marley playing near his ear.”
Brennan was a college football icon while at Hawaii from 2005 to 2007. He recorded more than 4,000 yards three times, including going for 5,549 in 2006. That year, he also set the single-season record for touchdown passes with 58. The record was ultimately broken by LSU’s Joe Burrow during the 2019 season. He finished fourth all-time in career touchdown passes with 131.

Following his time at Hawaii, Brennan was taken in the sixth round of the 2008 draft by the then-Washington Redskins. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from playing his rookie year and he ended up getting released.
It has been a rough year for the football community. Between small children suffering life-altering injuries a shocking sexual assault spree rocking the NFL, and the passing of undeniable legends – it has just been one blow after another.
Hopefully Brennan’s family can ultimately find the peace they deserve after this tragic incident, and with any luck it will serve as a reminder for one and all about the fragility of life. Every day is important and nothing should be taken for granted – and this incident just reinforces that.
