Cleveland Browns Hiring Robert Salah As New Coach?

Are the Cleveland Browns hiring Robert Salah as their new coach?

Saleh, a well-respected defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, was seen as something of an underdog to fill the vacancy left behind by Freddie Kitchens.

The expectation for several weeks now has been that New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was the frontrunner to take over in Cleveland.

However, McDaniels’ interview with the organization came and went on Friday with no offer being extended.

The Browns apparently were not blown away with what McDaniels brought to the table and are now re-evaluating all their choices.

According to Cleveland.com insider Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland has asked for permission to interview Ed Dodds of the Indianapolis Colts to fill their open general manager role.

If Dodds gets the job, he would want to install Saleh as his head coach.

“Browns request permission to interview Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds,” she tweeted out.

“League source tells me he would pair with Browns HC candidate and 49ers DC Robert Saleh.”

Dodds currently serves as the assistant general manager for the Colts, and he is highly respected around the league.

The fact that the Browns are choosing to interview him before naming a head coach means that, if he is hired, management will likely defer to him on the decision.

This entire sequence of events coincides with reports coming out of Cleveland that the organization may now wait until the playoffs conclude to name their next head coach.

If McDaniels was their guy, the could have just hired him already.

With Saleh, though, it would make sense to wait until the San Francisco’s playoff run concludes one way or the other.
