Browns Hiring Patriots Star To Be New General Manager?
Are the Browns hiring a Patriots star to be the new general manager?
New England college scouting director Monti Ossenfort is interviewing for Cleveland’s vacant general manager position this week.
A rising star within the Patriots organization, Ossenfort was supposed to interview with the Houston Texans back in 2018 but was blocked from doing so.
With Ossenfort’s New England contract officially expiring in 2020, this time around he will get his shot to interview for another team.
According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, Ossenfort is respected in league circles. That means pending a solid interview, he could legitimately land the role.
The big question is how effective Ossenfort can truly be in Cleveland. His track record with the Patriots is somewhat questionable.
Since 2013, the organization has yet to draft a single Pro Bowler.
The #Browns will interview #Patriots college scouting director Monti Ossenfort for their GM job tomorrow, sources say. It’s his first GM interview, because he was blocked for the #Texans GM job two years ago. A respected scout.

Ossenfort is not the only member of the Patriots family that Cleveland management has spoken to recently.
Prior to hiring former Minnesota Vikings coordinator Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach, the Browns heavily considered hiring New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Ultimately, the organization decided to pass on McDaniels because he was pushing for more changes on a structural level than they were willing to deal with.
