New Disturbing Gersson Rosas Details Emerge After Timberwolves Firing

The Minnesota Timberwolves fired President of basketball operations Gersson Rosas on Wednesday. Because of how close the move came to the beginning of the new season and the seeming randomness of it, many were caught off guard.

In fact, even Timberwolves superstar Karl-Anthony Towns seemed a bit out of the loop.

On Thursday, new troubling details emerged that shined a light on why the decision had been made.

According to Mike Max of CBS 4 Minnesota, Rosas allegedly developed a toxic workplace culture within the Timberwolves organization and engaged in an “inappropriate relationship” with someone also working for the franchise.

Chris Hines of the Star Tribune corroborated these claims to some degree.

“Throughout the past few months there has been growing discord and strained relationships among Rosas, the front office and the rest of the organization,” he wrote. “Sources also said Rosas’ recent actions involving a female employee of the team played a role in the decision and the timing of it. The woman is no longer with the team as of Wednesday.”

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, “ownership was made aware of Rosas’ transgressions with the staffer when team officials were provided with photographic evidence of their connection.”

Where did that evidence come from?

“Rosas and the woman, each of whom is married, were seen kissing in a suite during a Minnesota United FC game last Saturday at Allianz Field,” Fischer continued. “The soccer club was told to reserve luxury seating for several Timberwolves players and personnel, including assistant coach Pablo Prigioni. Two seats were filled by Rosas and the staffer. Those pictures have been obtained by Bleacher Report.

“One photograph is a close-up shot, clearly showing Rosas and the woman sitting beside one another in light blue cushioned seats, behind the suite’s protective plexiglass. A second photograph follows, where the two have leaned towards one another for a romantic embrace.”

One interesting bit of fallout from all this is that it may make a Ben Simmons trade between the Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers more likely. Gersson insisted on keeping one particular player out of any conversations – a deal-breaker for Philly for obvious reasons.

Now that impediment is no longer in place.

There has been a lot of chatter regarding big moves being on the horizon for the Wolves. Even Towns getting traded has been floated in recent weeks.

How will the fallout from this firing change things for the organization going forward? Time will tell.
