Paul George Picks ROY Between Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren

Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George is one of the best players of his generation. Although a championship has eluded him, few will argue with what an impactful star he has been in the NBA.

As a result, George is uniquely qualified to assess some of the league’s younger players.

This season, a legitimate Rookie of the Year (ROY) battle is brewing between Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs and Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

During a recent podcast, George broke the race down and made his pick.

“I’m going to give it to Wemby,” George said.

“Chet’s on a winning team, he’s got a great group of young guys around him, and not much pressure is like solely on him.”

George didn’t stop there, though.

“The expectation for Wemby is extremely high, he’s playing on a young team as well, but they’re not as successful and I don’t think quite yet that the talent is as high as Oklahoma’s,” he continued.

“So he’s relied upon to do a lot on a nightly basis, and he’s doing it, he’s contributing. If the numbers are close, yeah his team isn’t winning as much as Chet’s team, but that’s because Chet’s team’s better.”

That said, George thinks it is clear who the NBA would prefer to see win this year’s Rookie of the Year award.

“I think the NBA wants him to win it,” his co-host Dallas Rutherford said.

“Absolutely,” George replied.

Both Wembanyama and Holmgren have been in the headlines nonstop over the last few weeks.

Wembanyama went viral when folks realized how tall his 16-year-old brother already is.

Holmgren blew up online for his inappropriate joke about the Josh Giddey situation.

Both Wembanyama and Holmgren are clearly future faces of the NBA. Regardless of who ultimately claims ROY honors in 2024, the two youngsters have very bright careers ahead of them.
