The Golden State Warriors squandered a 60-point effort from Stephen Curry on Saturday night in a 141-134 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.
As a result, Golden State is now 21-25 and circling the drain of the Western Conference.
If they want to have any hope of turning this season around, the Warriors will need to make a big trade. In recent days they have been linked to a 4-team trade involving the Philadelphia 76ers, a 3-team trade involving the Portland Trail Blazers and one other notable deal.
On Sunday, a report surfaced revealing that Golden State had also recently extended a trade proposal that was immediately rebuffed.
According to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, the Warriors approached the Bulls about a deal centering around Alex Caruso.
Unfortunately for Steve Kerr, who has made his love for Caruso’s game no secret, it appears as though Chicago has zero interest in trading the team’s best defender away.
“League sources indicated that even before [Zach] LaVine’s surgery news had broken, multiple teams, including the Golden State Warriors, had inquired on Caruso,” Johnson wrote.
“To this point, management largely had rebuffed interest in Caruso because an internal focus centered on chasing a playoff spot.”
The interesting thing to watch for now is whether the Bulls’ plans change in light of LaVine’s decision to have season-ending surgery. Nobody is taking him off their hands at this point. So does that make the front office more or less likely to part ways with Caruso?

As for Golden State, clearly they need to do something.
The Hawks loss on Saturday night proved as much.
The Warriors have from now until the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline comes and goes next week to salvage their campaign. If they don’t, it could mark the end of a dynasty that has run roughshod over the league for the better part of a decade.
