The Golden State Warriors are 18-20 on the year and sit at the bottom of the Western Conference.
Things have gotten so bad that Stephen Curry is publicly begging the organization to make changes, rivals like Paul George are out there proposing deals that could help, and the girlfriends of Warriors players are posting cryptic messages on social media.
The Bay has seen better days.
That being said – Golden State is one big move away from switching up this whole season.
The Atlanta Hawks have made it no secret that Dejounte Murray is on the trade block. Already, two teams have emerged as the frontrunners for his services.
If the Warriors want to swoop in and steal him away, only their best available trade package has any shot of getting the job done.
What does that package look like? It will include Chris Paul, Moses Moody, and both the 2025 and 2027 first rounders that the Warriors own.
But obviously that won’t be enough for a player of Murray’s standing. No, in order to really push this deal over the top Golden State brass will need to give up one of the three players they pledged not to trade under any circumstances.
That player? Jonathan Kuminga.
Clearly the Warriors would prefer to retain Kuminga and give up someone like Andrew Wiggins in order to bring in a superstar.
But that isn’t how trades work.
In order to get a lot, which a two-way talent like Murray clearly is, you need to sacrifice something of value. Kuminga is that.

The Los Angeles Lakers have consistently been viewed as the favorites to get Murray.
That being said, one major roadblock to getting a deal done emerged this week.
That is the Warriors’ opening to swoop in and make something happen. If they don’t, it will ultimately prove to be the final nail in the coffin of this disastrous season.
