Lakers’ Top Priority Right Now Ahead Of 2024 NBA Trade Deadline

The Los Angeles Lakers are 26-25 after 51 games and desperately need to make a big move ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline.

In recent days L.A. has been linked to a competition for one key role player with the Milwaukee Bucks, one of the NBA’s best sharpshooters, and a former Sixth Man of the Year winner.

That being said, there have been questions regarding what the team’s top priority is ahead of the deadline.

This week, some answers emerged.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Lakers have one clear priority. A particular box they are trying to check.

“The Lakers need to establish a semblance of consistency with their performance, energy, effort, and playing rotations,” he wrote.

“At the same time, they likely need to make a trade or two. The team is putting a greater emphasis on adding a defensive wing by the trade deadline, according to team sources. The issue, of course, is that every team could use another wing. Prospective prices are high.”

A defensive wing certainly makes sense, though it is unclear who precisely the Lakers could get that fits the bill.

Especially since, as Buha noted, players of that sort are prized commodities around the NBA.

Also complicating matters is what L.A. will settle for. According to ESPN NBA insider Bobby Marks, the only way they will acquire a third maximum-level contract is if it is an All-NBA caliber player.

There aren’t a ton of guys that check all the boxes the Lakers are looking to check right now.

Clearly the front office wants to make a big move.

Whether or not they will be able to remains to be seen.

The NBA Trade Deadline comes and goes this Thursday. Things promise to get hectic between now and then for the Lakers and a lot of other teams.
