Lakers, 3 Other NBA Teams Linked To Clint Capela Trade With Hawks

Clint Capela is in the midst of a pretty typical season by his standards. He is currently averaging 11.4 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game for the Atlanta Hawks.

That is roughly on par with the 12 points and 11 rebounds Capela averaged last season, as well as the 11.1 points and 11.9 rebounds he averaged the year before that.

The minor decline in Capela’s stats can be attributed to him playing slightly fewer minutes per game this season.

This week, reports surfaced that Capela might be on the move as Atlanta tries to figure out precisely what sort of team it wants to be going forward.

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, four teams are worth keeping an eye on when it comes to a trade involving Capela.

“Frustrations stemming from their lack of success continue to mount in Atlanta, leaving the Hawks’ front office open to virtually all offers coming their way,” he wrote.

“For Capela, an influx of playoff-contending teams have already begun to show a level of interest, with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and Sacramento Kings named as possible suitors for the veteran center, sources said.”

L.A.’s inclusion on the list understandably caught some folks off guard. That being said, per Siegel, it is a move that would occur in a package deal that also returned Murray.

“The Lakers, league sources said, have briefly discussed the scenario of acquiring both Murray and Capela from the Hawks,” he added.

Unfortunately, Los Angeles’ refusal to include one key player in any potential swap with Atlanta could ultimately prove to be a deal-breaker.

Capela landing with the Knicks, Rockets or Kings would make a lot of sense as well.

It would be a win-win for all parties involved.

As the NBA Trade Deadline nears, it will be interesting to see if the Hawks ultimately make a move and send Capela elsewhere.
