Brian Windhorst is one of the most plugged-in NBA insiders around.
While Adrian Wojnarowski is obviously ESPN’s top dog when it comes to breaking hoops news, Windhorst doesn’t trail too far behind him.
This past week Windhorst spoke about the rapidly approaching NBA Trade Deadline.
Specifically, he delved into what the Los Angeles Lakers’ situation is ahead of Feb. 8.
After 41 games, L.A. finds itself with an unimpressive 20-21 mark. Because of that, many expect Rob Pelinka and Co. to make big changes.
Over the past few weeks alone the Lakers have been linked to a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers, two blockbuster swaps and a possible something with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Unfortunately, according to Windhorst, all these moves might be pipe dreams.
“There’s no teams interested in calling the Lakers for the players that they want to trade,” he said.
“… The Lakers have to go through this homestand and figure out whether they’re gonna do something, but even if they want to, they don’t have guys who have high value right now like the Raptors have had over the past few months. I don’t even know if it’s comparable.”
Windhorst then took it one step further recently and addressed the trade that Los Angeles has been most closely linked to in recent days.
“I think there’s a zero percent chance of the Lakers trading for Zach LaVine,” he said.
It will be interesting to see where L.A. goes from here.
If not LaVine, obviously Pelinka and Co. could still pursue one of the other transactions they have been linked to. Namely a possible deal with the Indiana Pacers and a trade with the Detroit Pistons.

But it is increasingly looking like no major moves will be made.
Will the Lakers defy the expectations and make a splash once again ahead of this year’s NBA Trade Deadline? Time will tell.
