Gary Payton Jr.’s reaction to the Golden State Warriors not covering the spread against the Washington Wizards on Friday night caused something of a stir.
This week, Jordan Poole made his triumphant return to The Bay after his unceremonious exit this summer. While that was the main storyline coming into this outing, the thing everyone couldn’t stop talking about afterward was a sequence that occurred at the very end.
Coming into Friday night, the spread for this particular match-up was either -11.5 or -12 depending on where you looked.
When a meaningless three was hit as the clock expired, reducing the Warriors’ lead to 11 points, Payton Jr. offered an intriguing reaction:

NBA fans at home not only noticed Payton Jr.’s response to the shot, but also had some strong takes on what it meant:
It’s not a crime to be aware of the spread, and for most of these guys it would be hard NOT to know what it is.

Why would he be banned? As long as he didn’t bet on it, what’s the harm of making a team cover the points spread. I bet you most do this anyways..as long as their not wagering and doing for fun. No harm no foul 🤣
