Austin Reaves’ Blunt Reaction To Anthony Davis’ Poor Play
The Los Angeles Lakers suffered their most recent loss of the season on Saturday in a game against the Utah Jazz.
With LeBron James out for this one, the onus fell on Anthony Davis to carry the load.
Unfortunately, the big man could only muster up 15 points in nearly 40 minutes of action. While he did also pitch in 15 rebounds and 11 assists, clearly those stats weren’t as impactful as the numbers would suggest if they wound up losing.
After the game, Austin Reaves spoke bluntly about Davis’ play.
“Yeah, I mean I can already see the headlines, ‘AD sucks’ or ‘AD can’t do this, can’t do that,’” Reaves said.
“He had a tough night shooting the ball, other than that, he was fantastic. Like you said, 11 assists, triple-double. From the gate, they were doubling him, he was making the right play and I guarantee if you go back and watch the film and we get him the ball in the positions that he missed shots in, you would turn around and do the same thing again.”
Whatever the problem, be it Davis’ play or not, the Lakers are down bad right now. The team has the exact same record after 40 games in 2024 that it did in 2023.
Clearly something needs to change.
In recent days the Lakers have been linked to a blockbuster trade with the Atlanta Hawks, a big swap with the Portland Trail Blazers and two big-name superstars.

Unless one of those deals actually materializes, it is hard to see how L.A. rights this ship.
As presently constructed, the roster just isn’t very good.
Can the Lakers ultimately make a big trade and fix their season the way they did last year? Time will tell.
