LeBron James And The Lakers’ Biggest Weakness At The Moment
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers came into this season looking to build off the success of last year.
While the team struggled prior to the NBA Trade Deadline in 2022-23, they rallied hard during the back half of that campaign and made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals.
Unfortunately, for a myriad of reasons, L.A. has really fallen behind this season.
As they launch into the second half of their 2023-24 campaign, the Lakers’ biggest weakness continues to haunt them.
As noted by ClutchPoints, L.A.’s fatal flaw right now is a lack of three-point shooting
“On each of James’ four championship teams, he had a multitude of knockdown three-point shooters who could hit shots from behind the arc at a high clip,” the report noted.
“James is at his best when there are guys like J.R. Smith, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, or Ray Allen playing alongside him. With this current iteration of the Lakers, though, no one has been consistent enough to match their production from long distance.”
It is hard to argue with that. D’Angelo Russell is the team’s most efficient three-point shooter right now, followed by Rui Hachimura and James himself.
There is no deadly marksman on this roster. And out of the team’s three most likely buyout options at the moment, it is hard to see how that changes any time soon.

Last year it felt like ownership and the front office really committed to improving the roster in a meaningful way ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline. Notable weaknesses were shored up.
The same didn’t happen this season.
Will the Lakers’ fatal flaw, their three-point shooting, cause them to miss the playoffs altogether in 2024? An answer one way or the other is coming soon enough.
