Mavericks Tried Trading Luka Doncic To 1 Other Team
Recent reports indicate that Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison attempted to trade star player Luka Dončić to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Anthony Edwards. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Harrison reached out to the Timberwolves organization about this potential blockbuster deal.
The Timberwolves reportedly shut down the trade talks immediately. Minnesota’s front office made it clear that Edwards was not available for trade discussions, effectively ending any possibility of the deal moving forward.
“League sources tell The Athletic that the Mavericks and Timberwolves informally discussed the prospect of swapping Doncic for 23-year-old, three-time All-Star Anthony Edwards in the weeks before the Lakers deal went down,” the report noted.
“More specifically, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison reached out to the Timberwolves and asked if there was any chance they’d be willing to trade Edwards. He was promptly told no. The Timberwolves, league sources say, were stunned that Dallas was contemplating parting ways with Doncic.”
This revelation has surprised many NBA observers given Dončić’s status as one of the league’s premier talents. The timing of these discussions is particularly notable as they apparently occurred before other significant trade negotiations involving the Mavericks.
The two players faced each other during the Western Conference playoffs in May 2024, with Dončić’s Mavericks and Edwards’ Timberwolves competing directly. Both young stars are considered franchise cornerstones for their respective teams.
