Chet Holmgren Gains 13 Pounds, Looks Massive In New Photos

Chet Holmgren’s NBA debut is going to be one of the more intriguing storylines heading into the 2023-24 NBA season.

Obviously the story of this offseason has been the San Antonio Spurs’ no-brainer decision to select Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft.

Just one year earlier, however – Holmgren was the skinny big man everyone around the league couldn’t stop talking about. An untimely Lisfranc injury during a Pro-Am game derailed some of Holmgren’s and momentum, but that’s only a temporary setback.

One of the big concerns about Holmgren coming in was his skinny nature and lanky frame. He sort of confirmed the worries people had about him by immediately getting hurt.

As it turns out, though – Holmgren has slowly been putting on some size. Apparently, he has gained 13 pounds since entering the league and recent photos reflect the change in his body.

NBA fans are a fickle bunch, so reactions to Holmgren’s body development ended up being mixed.

Folks took to social media to react to Holmgren’s additional mass.

Regardless of how anyone feels about his weight, Holmgren was an absolute stud during his Gonzaga days. It’s going to be exciting to see what he can bring to the table for the Oklahoma City Thunder next season.

In a lot of ways, Wembanyama entering the league this summer may benefit Holmgren.

With Wembanyama (and his sister) soaking up all the attention, Holmgren will be free to develop sans the same sort of scrutiny and pressure he would have faced one season earlier.

That will prove to be a blessing for both him and the Thunder.

Will Holmgren continue to put on weight and muscle going forward? Will he be able to team up with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to guide OKC into the playoffs? A lot of those questions and many more will be answered in the 2023-24 NBA season.
