Ben Simmons’ Role In Nets Abruptly Firing Jacque Vaughn

The Brooklyn Nets fired head coach Jacque Vaughn immediately after the NBA’s All-Star Break came to a conclusion.

Given that the front office seemingly made this decision a mere five days after getting embarrassed by the Boston Celtics 136-86 – it didn’t come as a huge shock.

The most notable thing to happen to the franchise this past year has been a cheerleader revealing that she was run through by the entire starting five. That’s never great .

That said, fans at home were still curious about the reasoning behind the move.

An answer to their questions emerged late Monday evening.

According to Shams Charania of the Athletic, the decision to fire Vaughn was based on a couple of different things.

“Jacque Vaughn, fired by the Brooklyn Nets. He signed a multi-year contract extension last February,” Charania reported.

“He lost by 50 points before the All-Star break to the Celtics. This team has been dreadful since the new year and hasn’t been able to win games consistently. Multiple players, including Spencer Dinwiddie, who’s left, and Mikal Bridges, have been vocal behind the scenes for months now. They felt like a lot of what Jacque Vaughn was running was being run improperly and without structure.”

Apparently Ben Simmons played a role in the process as well.

“When they went into training camp, a lot of their offense was built around Ben Simmons playing the one and at a high level,” Charania added.

“Throughout the season, he’s been unavailable. This is the third coach since 2016 to be fired under Sean Marks… The Nets have a lot of questions, who’s going to be the interim, who’s going to be the long-term head coach.”

Brooklyn is presently 21-33 and sits 11th in the Eastern Conference.

Kevin Ollie, a former UConn coach who was once a hot candidate to be an NBA head coach somewhere, will step in for Vaughn on an interim basis.

Will Ollie be able to right Vaughn’s wrongs and turn his temporary position with the Nets into a permanent one? Time will tell.
