Are the Cardinals and Rockies working on a big Nolan Arenado trade?

All summer long rumors have run rampant regarding where Colorado would ultimately deal their talented third baseman.

The New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers have all been mentioned at one point or another.

This week, thanks to an interesting trade between St. Louis and the Tampa Bay Rays, a new team jumped into the Nolan Arenado Sweepstakes.

The Cardinals are reportedly putting together an offer consisting of prized prospect Matt Liberatore, outfielder Tyler O’Neill and pitchers Carlos Martinez and Dakota Hudson.

Obviously this would be a huge package for Colorado and one that would seriously make them consider parting ways with Arenado.

Hudson posted a 16-7 mark in 2019 with an ERA of 3.35 and a 1.40 WHIP. He also had baseball’s best ground ball rate and lowest fly ball percentage.

Martinez finished out 2019 having saved 24 games in 27 showings.

O’Neill recorded 37 hits in relatively little playing time.

Clearly all of the aforementioned teams who have been in the conversation for Arenado will remain so until a deal is done, but St. Louis’ package objectively seems like the best one offered thus far.

Will the Rockies bite? Time will tell.
