McKayla Maroney’s Very Provocative New Photos Go Viral

McKayla Maroney rose to international prominence in the early 2010s as an essential component of the women’s U.S. Gymnastics Team.

As one of the “Fierce Five” in 2012, Maroney captured a gold medal at the team event in London and silver in the vault. Along the way, she became something of an internet meme and developed a persona that would follow her around to this very day.

After her retirement, Maroney shifted her focus onto building an online brand. Quite successfully, actually. As of April 2022, she boasts more than 1.4 million followers on Instagram and nearly 83,000 on TikTok. As a result of that massive audience, anything she posts quickly goes viral.

Case in point: the provocative new photos Maroney published this week.

The imagery largely speaks for itself:

This isn’t the first time in recent months Maroney has broken the internet. Her sultry Valentine’s Day photo shoot also went mega-viral.

Plus, just her general posts get a ton of engagement as well:

And that’s to say nothing of her racy video from a few months ago which left quite the impression.

All in all, it’s easy to see why Maroney has such a massive following online. She is a legitimate influencer and web star at this juncture, and her follower count is only going up from here.

Maroney has successfully reinvented herself in a way few have shown the ability to. When you compare her posts to Aly Raisman’s recent attempt at posting racy content the numbers largely speak for themselves. Maroney is in a camp of her own.

For better or worse, Maroney has earned a place in the larger sports cultural zeitgeist that cannot be taken away from her.

What will she ultimately go viral for next?

Time will tell.
