The Los Angeles Lakers came into the 2021-22 NBA season with championship aspirations. When it was all said and done, they failed to make the playoffs altogether.
It was, bar none, the most disappointing campaign of any team this year.
All of which begs the obvious question: what can the Lakers command for him in a trade?
According to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, Westbrook’s market value is currently rock bottom.
“To other teams, Westbrook represented a one-year problem on the books as a way to erase long-term commitments to other players,” he wrote.
“Some scouts and executives around the league don’t view Westbrook as a useful player at this stage, especially with a nearly $50 million price tag.”
That’s quite the steep fall from grace for a former league MVP.

As things currently stand, four teams appear to be interested in bringing Westbrook onboard. If one of those deals actually materializes, then maybe the Lakers can do a quick rebuild and try to make everyone forget about the embarrassment that was this past season.
But if Westbrook’s market value really is down in the basement, and should a trade fail to come together – next season could prove be even rougher for L.A. than this one was.
