Utah Jazz legend Karl Malone ran into the Chicago Bulls dynasty just as it was coming to an end. As a result, he has a unique perspective on what that group’s two biggest stars, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, brought to the table.
With Jordan and Pippen engaging in an intense, mostly one-sided beef in recent months, the question of who the superior player between the two of them is has started to get relitigated.
That’s where Malone comes in.
During an old appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, Malone actually settled the Jordan vs Pippen debate once and for all.
“I would have to start my team with Scottie Pippen,” he said.
“This is why I would take Scottie: Do you remember the time that Michael retired? I watched Scottie Pippen when the Chicago Bulls weren’t really good and Scottie led that team in every statistical category, and I just remembered that.
“Plus, he’s a guy who could care less about scoring. He wants to stop the best player on the other team. That would have been pretty cool, to see Scottie guarding Michael. My second one would be Magic.”
Malone never shies away from controversial takes.
That’s certainly one way to dress to a Miami Heat game. https://t.co/hc5B0pztRq

The Jazz legend’s smoldering hot opinion on New Orleans Pelicans big man Zion Williamson gets brought up to this day.
In that spirit – his Jordan vs Pippen commentary was just par for the course.
