Joel Embiid Sends Jimmy Butler Sad Message After Heat Win

Joel Embiid sent Jimmy Butler a sad message following the Miami Heat’s 115-104 upset victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night.

Butler had a spectacular Game 1. The 30-year-old scored a career playoff high with 40 points, shooting 13 of 20 from the field and 12 of 13 from the free throw line.

After the game, he celebrated with an Instagram post captioned “good w @miamiheat.”

This prompted a pretty sad reply from Embiid.

That Instagram reply was not his only message regarding Butler on Monday night.

Embiid and Butler were teammates on last year’s Philadelphia 76ers team. The pair managed to get to the second round of the playoffs together, but ultimately got eliminated by Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors.

By most people’s standards, that Sixers team underachieved given the talent that was on the roster.

In the offseason, Philly made a hard push to retain Butler – but he wasn’t feeling it there. Despite being asked not to take meetings with other organizations, he did. Eventually he signed with the Heat.

So far, Butler seems to have come out of the breakup with the Sixers as the winner. If he ends up leading Miami past Milwaukee in the second round, he will erase any remaining doubt that he walked away from that relationship as the one who got the better end of the deal.
