Jim Harbaugh Loses Michigan Star To Transfer Portal

Jim Harbaugh lost a Michigan star to the transfer portal this past week.

Linebacker Devin Gil revealed on Tuesday that he was planning on seeking out greener pastures next year.

Over the course of 40 outings for Michigan, he recorded 47 tackles, four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Unfortunately, he simply could not out find all that much playing time last season despite being essential to the defense in 2018.

Coming out of high school, Gil was the 997th overall prospect and 144th highest-rated player out of the state of Florida. With those stats in mind, he actually exceeded a lot of expectations throughout his time as a Wolverine.

Whoever he chooses to play for next year, Gil will be eligible to participate right away as a fifth-year senior. It will be interesting to see where he ultimately ends up.

Along the same lines, it will be interesting to see what this move means for Michigan’s defensive depth. Last season the Wolverines went 9-4 overall and 6-3 in-conference essentially on the strength of the program’s defense.

Michigan’s first game of the year in 2020 will come against the Washington Huskies at the beginning of September.
