Jaylen Brown’s Real Reason For Leaving Donda Sports

Jaylen Brown’s Real Reason For Leaving Donda Sports

Jaylen Brown was one of the most high-profile athletes brought on to Donda Sports this past summer when Kanye West originally unveiled the venture.

In recent weeks, West has come under fire for a series of antisemitic remarks that led to a number of his business relationships disintegrating.

The increased scrutiny of West and his various ventures led to people pressing Brown on his association with the controversial rapper and his agency.

Initially, Brown resisted. The Celtics star suggested he would remain with Donda despite the criticism. A short time later, though – he reversed course.

As is usually the case nowadays, the rumor mill ran rampant with speculation regarding Brown’s sudden change of position.

This week, Brown put an end to the speculation and revealed the real reason he departed Donda Sports.

“What would have happened if I stayed?” he told Jared Weiss of The Athletic.

“I work hard to be able to have the platform that I have and use it to be a voice for the voiceless. So to potentially, maybe, have to sacrifice that platform, I don’t think that would be the right decision. So I had to do what we have to do.”

Brown is having an excellent season so far in 2022-23. He is averaging a career-high 25.6 points per game at the moment, and the Celtics look like the best team in the East.

That said, he has also been forced to deal with a lot of off-the-court stuff. Between this Donda thing, the drama with his new girlfriend and his surprising reaction to the Celtics’ handling of Ime Udoka – it has been one thing after another.

Brown is balling out this year. Hopefully he can continue to do that and drown out the outside noise.

On paper, this has the makings of a career year for him.

Will he be able to keep it going, though?

Time will tell.
