Is Gus Malzahn leaving Auburn for Florida State?

No. 12 ranked Auburn is coming off another solid victory over Mississippi this weekend, but Nov. 16’s looming battle with Georgia underscores just how trapped Malzahn is in his current situation.

There is always another threat to his job security just around the corner, no matter how much he wins.

Malzahn is 7-2 on the year and Auburn is in the midst of their seventh winning season in a row under him.

Overall Malzahn is 60-29 since taking the reigns back in 2013 and has led the squad to an SEC title and a BCS National Championship game.

The problem is that while Malzahn is a good coach and his team is always solid, they are never quite good enough to compete in the ultra-competitive SEC.

Aside from his initial success, Malzahn has more or less floundered compared to the other elite programs in the conference.

According to Paul Finebaum, it might make sense for Malzahn to move elsewhere for the sake of his career.

Finebaum’s suggestion? Florida State.

The Seminoles, of course, just fired Willie Taggart – and Finebaum believes Malzahn is just the guy to step in and turn that program around.

“I don’t think this is ever going to end at Auburn,” Finebaum said.

“I’ve got respect for Gus Malzahn. I think Gus Malzahn ought to call (agent) Jimmy Sexton and say, ‘Jimmy, get me out of here. Get me a new job.’

“Find me one, there are plenty of openings right now. There’s one at Florida State,” Finebaum continued.

“There may be one in the SEC West, and let’s figure out a way to do this on a high caliber fashion with class and let’s move on.”

Will Malzahn ultimately make the move to FSU? Time will tell.

Should he?

Absolutely.
