Is Florida State Firing Willie Taggart, Hiring Urban Meyer Or Brian Kelly?
Is Florida State firing Willie Taggart and hiring Urban Meyer or Brian Kelly?
Given how poorly the Seminoles have played up to this point, it is certainly within the realm of possibility.
This past weekend, Taggart and Co. came close to defeating a one-loss Wake Forest team – but ultimately came up just short.
That has become something of a running theme for a team that has now fallen to 3-4 on the year and 8-11 under Taggart’s reign.
Understandably, many are now speculating that the beleaguered head coach is on his way out.
According to Football Scoop, the school has “engaged its donor class about making a change at the head coaching position rather than give Taggart a third chance to turn Seminole football around.”
Who will Florida State hire in place of Taggart, should they decide to sever ties with him?
As reported by Football Scoop and The Spun, the Seminoles hope to steal away either the man at the helm of Notre Dame or the former Ohio State coach.
Will a program like Florida State really be able to lure in two of the biggest names in college football?
It is unlikely.
Moreover, the Seminoles have an even more pressing concern – Taggart’s contract.
As it stands, Taggart’s deal runs through 2024 and he would receive a $17 million buyout if he is fired.
That is a lot of money.
Still, Florida State appears to have at least two more losses remaining on their schedule, and if they finish the year with six defeats on their record, it will be hard not to make a drastic change over the summer.
