The 2019 MLB All Game takes place on Tuesday, July 9. The 90th Midsummer Classic is being hosted by the Cleveland Indians at their home Progressive Field.
If that surprises you, you should not feel too bad about it. The National League has hosted this game every single year since 2014 – not that it has done them much good. The American League has won the proceedings on six straight occasions.
This year, American League is -1.5, according to some to some sports books. The over/under is 8.5.
Interestingly enough, there are 36 players in tonight’s game making their very first appearance in an All Star game.
The manager of the American League side will be Alex Cora of the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox. Meanwhile, Dave Roberts, of the defending runner up Los Angeles Dodgers, will manage the National League for the second straight year.
Houston Astros star Justin Verlander will start the game for the American League and will face off against Hyun-jin Ryu who will be representing the Dodgers on the National League side.
Verlander, 36, is the oldest All-Star this year. Ryu, conversely, is 32. This will be the ninth time in baseball history that the two starting pitchers are 32 years old or older – and the first time since 2001 when Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson were the opening acts.
