Fans all over the world are looking for how to watch Chile vs Peru square off in the semi-finals of Wednesday’s Copa America showdown, and for good reason.
Everyone aside from loyal Argentina fans were more or less expecting that some combination of Brazil, Chile and Peru would end up playing in Sunday’s upcoming Copa America championship game.
Brazil did their part, now we await Wednesday’s showdown between Chile and Peru to determine who will play in the championship game.
Both Peru and Chile enter this showdown coming off thrilling match-ups. Chile beat Colombia in a pulse-racing battle that ended with a 5-4 victory, while Peru knocked off the highly-respect Uruguay in similar 5-4 fashion.
As it stands, Chile is currently the favorite in the Clasico del Pacifico, but this figures to be a low scoring affair that could realistically go either way.
Chile definitely did well against Colombia, but they did let it go down to the wire in a way that fans no doubt did not really appreciate. They are gritty and have proven that they can deliver when the pressure is at its highest point, but it is worth considering whether perhaps they feel like this is one of their last shots at international greatness. The team’s window is undeniably closing, and last year’s World Cup disappointment no doubt still lingers in their minds.
Peru, meanwhile, enters this particular battle with zero goals in their last two games. Yes, you read that correctly – zero goals in their last two games. There are a number of reasons for this, but the most notable feels like the fact that they have not really been able to efficiently locate open players in the final third.
Sure, in theory this is fixable. If Peru players start playing faster passes atop the box to make room for shots, they should see immediate results. Will they actually do that, though? Well, that is the big question that we will get an answer to on Wednesday.
To be fair, no one would argue that Chile has the defensive tenacity of a Uruguay, so Peru gets a reprieve of sorts in that regard. That being said, Gary Medel and his squad will likely give the opposition all they can handle, and then some.
