Dwayne Haskins Speaks Out After Washington Releases Him

The Washington Football Team released quarterback Dwayne Haskins one day after he was benched in a loss to the Carolina Panthers.

“I told him that I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways,” team head coach Ron Rivera said on Monday.

“We want to thank Dwayne for his contributions these last two seasons and wish him well moving forward.”

Haskins responded to the message with a tweet of his own.

“I take full responsibility for not meeting the standards of a NFL QB [and] will become a better man [and] player because of this experience.”

Earlier on Monday, Rivera informed reporters on his video conference call that Washington would start Taylor Heinicke if Alex Smith was unable to play in Sunday’s season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles.

That outing is of the utmost importance, as Washington can win the NFC East with a victory.

Right or wrong, Rivera felt like Washington’s chances were better without Haskins on the roster.

Will that prove to be true?

Time will tell.
