Donovan Mitchell Joked About Coronavirus With Jazz Fans Before Getting Coronavirus

Donovan Mitchell joked with Utah Jazz fans about having the coronavirus shortly before actually testing positive for the coronavirus himself.

Prior to this week’s showdown between the Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder, Mitchell could be seen jesting with fans regarding the pandemic sweeping the globe.

“Y’all can’t touch it (the ball), y’all might have the virus,” he told a group while smiling.

A short time later, the NBA revealed that his teammate Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus. The league promptly cancelled its season immediately. Not long after that, it emerged Mitchell too had come down with coronavirus.

According to a statement released by the organization, Mitchell was the only other member of the team to test positive.

“As a follow-up to yesterday’s positive COVID-19 test, Oklahoma health officials tested all members of the Utah Jazz traveling party, confirming one additional positive outcome for a Jazz player,” the statement read.

“We are working closely with the CDC, Oklahoma and Utah state officials, and the NBA to monitor their health and determine the best path moving forward.”

Given that both Gobert and Mitchell are young and in peak physical health, there is little threat to them from the virus. The real danger is them transmitting it to someone whose immune system is not as strong as theirs.

Both players are currently being quarantined.
