Are the Dolphins working on a big trade with the Redskins and Lions?

The 2020 NFL Draft is set to take place on April 23, but teams have already begun jockeying for position and picks.

One such team is Miami.

Fresh off a disappointing 5-11 campaign, the Dolphins are set on making a move that will take them out of the AFC East basement.

According to Benjamin Allbright, the team considers Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa a necessary piece for their future.

It is no secret that the franchise has had little success finding a franchise quarterback up to this point, and they view Tagovailoa as someone who could change that.

The problem for the Dolphins is that they have the number five overall pick. As such, there is a decent chance that Tagovailoa will be off the board by the time they make their selectino.

It is widely assumed that the Cincinnati Bengals will take LSU’s Joe Burrow off the board with the top overall pick. From there, the rest of the top five is anyone’s guess.

Chase Young, Justin Herbert and Tagovailoa have all been mentioned in various top-five scenarios.

Not wanting to risk losing Tagovailoa, the Dolphins are now reportedly willing to do a deal with either Washington Redskins for the second overall pick or Detroit Lions for the third overall pick to ensure they get their man.

“The Dolphins have no interest in trading up for Joe Burrow nor for the first overall pick,” the report notes.

“Instead, he says the Dolphins are supposedly in on Alabama Crimson Tide QB Tua Tagovailoa and are looking to move up to third overall – or second – if it should be necessary.”

Fortunately for Miami, the organization has more than enough assets to make a big move. Currently, the Dolphins are in possession of three first round picks.

If they really are serious about aggressively pursuing Tagovailoa, they definitely have the means to do so.

A lot will obviously depend on Tagovailoa’s health. The Alabama star is currently recovering from a season-ending hip injury, and his expected recovery date is some time over the next couple of moments.

At that point, Miami’s position should become a bit more clear.

If Tagovailoa is fully healthy, don’t be surprised to see them swing for the fences with a big trade. If not, the franchise will likely opt for Plan B.
