Disturbing Details Emerge From Conor McGregor Rape Accusation

Conor McGregor is set to fight Dustin Poirier this coming Saturday at UFC 257. The pair faced off once before back in 2014, where it took McGregor less than two minutes to secure a TKO victory.

On Thursday, during a press conference promoting the pair’s rematch, McGregor was asked about a lawsuit filed against him earlier in the week.

As noted by Shane Phelan of the Irish Independent, a woman and her mother are suing McGregor in a personal injury lawsuit. The Irish fighter responded to the claims by denying “any wrongdoing” and insisting the matter has been extenisvely investigated by An Garda Siochana, or Gardai, which is Ireland’s national police.

When asked about the lawsuit this week during a televised news conference, McGregor described it as “old news” and reiterated that the accusations made against him had been extensively investigated by the authorities.

This past Tuesday, Tariq Panja and Kevin Draper of the New York Times published the details surrounding the incident in question and what the woman at the center of it is claiming occurred.

“While in the penthouse suite, the woman said in the statement of claim that she was ‘beckoned’ to the bedroom by McGregor, who asked her to perform a lewd act on him, which she refused,” the New York Times reported.

“McGregor began kissing the woman and removing her clothes, over her protestations, the statement said. After she bit and hit McGregor, he wrapped his arms around her neck and lifted her up three times, after which she ceased fighting back.”

At that point, the details become especially brutal.

According to the New York Times, “McGregor then told her, ‘That’s how I felt in the Octagon, I had to tap myself out three times, that’s how I felt,’ the lawsuit said.”

“Tapping” is what occurs when a fighter is submitted during a fight. When a fighter “taps” the referee moves in and stops the bout.

“McGregor raped her, according to the statement of claim, and demanded she lie on the bed next to him afterward,” the report continued.

“The woman fell asleep and woke up in the early evening of Dec. 9, after which McGregor left the hotel with the woman’s work colleague before returning, the lawsuit said. McGregor’s friend gave her a drink.

“Her only memory thereafter is of being in a taxi, according to the statement. She said she was later told by the police that McGregor’s friend said he had sex with her, but she had no recollection of it and did not consent.”

McGregor was arrested and questioned about the case when the accusations were first made, but nothing ultimately came of it and no criminal charges were filed.

McGregor often makes headlines for fun things like a $2 million sex watch, but obviously this is a very serious matter and deserves to be treated as such.
