Desus And Mero Beef, Break Up Caused By Anna Kendrick?

Desus And Mero Beef, Break Up Caused By Anna Kendrick?

Showtime confirmed this week that the once-beloved Desus & Mero late night series would not be returning for a fifth season.

The announcement was somewhat expected after a topsy-turvy last few days, but it still left many of the show’s fans heartbroken.

Shortly after the news went public, many began to wonder what led to Desus and Mero beefing and whether their break-up was in any capacity caused by actress Anna Kendrick.

Daniel Baker, otherwise known as Desus, and Joel Martinez, also known as Mero, built up a sizeable following over the past decade as two preeminent faces of Black Twitter. They capitalized on their internet success with the Bodega Boys podcast and later turned that into a hit Showtime show that went on for four seasons.

Unfortunately, over the past year, things went awry.

It all started with Desus throwing fans into a frenzy when he suggested the show would be going on hiatus. The backlash got so bad that Showtime had to respond with this tweet:

Then Mero stirred things up some more when he revealed he had no idea when the show would return:

Then Mero started talking about making the podcast a solo venture:

And then more recently, things seemed to take a turn for the worst:

Fast forward to Monday night, when Showtime broke the news that Desus and Mero were done.

How does Kendrick fit into all this? Well, she has been linked to Desus and Mero in various capacities since 2019. Then, a few months ago, this photo emerged:

Which prompted Reddit conversations like this:

And then last week, this video came out.

Factor in the fact that Kendrick and her boyfriend Bill Hader recently broke up, and you can see why folks’ imaginations started running wild.

The tweets on this matter largely speak for themselves:

All in all, this has been a tough run for the culture. Between Ja Morant’s preference in women becoming public knowledge, the whole Bronny James and his girlfriend situation and now this – it has just been one blow after another.

Watch this space. It will be interesting to see what Desus and Mero get up to next now that they are going their separate ways.

Who will have the more lucrative solo run?

Time will tell.
