Paul Finebaum offered his take on Tua Tagovailoa opting to turn pro.
On Monday, Tagovailoa announced at a press conference with Nick Saban that he would not be returning to Alabama in 2020.
Based on what he was hearing from his doctors and pro scouts, Tagovailoa is confident that he will be selected decently high in the looming NFL Draft.
Later in the day, Finebaum appeared on the SEC Network and offered his take on what had transpired.
Essentially, Finebaum believed that a recent New York meeting with his doctors is what made Tagovailoa’s final decision an easy one.
“I think he got a better indication of where he was with the NFL, and it was not a difficult decision,” Finebaum.
“He was optimistic by what he would hear. He’s being looked at by some of the best people in the world.
“We all know, it’s a business decision and I frankly felt as if he was taking a bigger risk staying than leaving.
“By leaving, he is still going to be a high pick, I think everyone has said that. By staying, what if he gets hurt again and then nobody would want anything to do with him at that point.”
ESPN NFL Draft insider Mel Kiper Jr. also weighed in on Monday regarding where he believed Tagovailoa would be drafted.
In his opinion, Tagovailoa will be selected by either the Miami Dolphins or Los Angeles Chargers.
Which team will ultimately get him? Time will tell.
