Oklahoma Has Easiest 2020 Schedule In Country, Says Expert
Oklahoma has the easiest 2020 schedule in the country, says one expert.
It is no secret that many regard the Big 12 as a conference that does not stack up to the SEC or Big Ten.
Programs are often accused of not playing defense and, as a rule, the conference is considered extremely top heavy.
With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that some regard the Sooners’ 2020 schedule as one of the easiest in the nation.
In a recent column, Brad Crawford of 247 Sports suggested that Oklahoma’s looming schedule is the third easiest in the entire country.
He also insists that is the softest in the conference – even more so than the one Texas will play.
Aside from a weak Big 12 schedule, Oklahoma also has outings lined up against Missouri State, Tennessee and Army. Those three programs went 14-23 last year.
Moreover, Oklahoma is set to only play against two top-25 squads.
“I’m not incredibly high on the Big 12 in 2020, not after Matt Rhule’s departure from Baylor, the up-and-down play from the Longhorns last season and noticeable step backs at Iowa State and TCU,” Crawford wrote.
“Could it improve next fall? Certainly. But at the end of January, Oklahoma’s schedule has the perfect set-up for a return trip to the Playoff with arguably its toughest games other than the Cotton Bowl both coming in Norman (Tennessee and Oklahoma State).”
Over the last eight years Oklahoma has won the conference on six separate occasions. That is the good. The bad, however, is that the Sooners also went 2-6 in bowl games in that stretch.
Of those six defeats, five came by double digits.
Will Oklahoma be able to earn a College Football Playoff spot in 2020-21 if there are five teams with one or fewer losses between the SEC and Big Ten? Time will tell.
