Mississippi State Gave Mike Leach Odd Contract
Mississippi State gave Mike Leach an odd contract this week.
Leach, 58, made headlines on Thursday after leaving Washington State to take over for fired coach Joe Moorhead.
Fresh off a somewhat underwhelming 6-7 campaign in 2019, Leach was able to secure a deal that will pay him $5 million annually. Beyond that, he was also able to negotiate a pretty hefty package for his assistants.
According to ESPN college football insider Adam Rittenberg, it was simply too good a deal to walk away from.
New #MississippiState coach Mike Leach is receiving a contract that will pay him $5 million annually and includes a substantial commitment to the salary pool for assistants and support staff, a source told ESPN. State law limits the contract length to four years.

“Mike Leach is receiving a contract that will pay him $5 million annually and includes a substantial commitment to the salary pool for assistants and support staff,” he noted.
In his time between Texas Tech and Washington State Leach has amassed an overall record of 139-90.
Will he prove to be worthy of the contract that Mississippi State bestowed upon him?
We should find out the answer to that within the next year.
