Oregon Ducks QB Dante Moore Farts in the Huddle Big Ten Media Day Just Went Off the Rails
Somebody in the Oregon Ducks locker room needs to invent a code of silence.
At Big Ten Media Day this week, Portland reporter Brenna Greene asked Oregon tight end Jamari Johnson a lighthearted question. Who on the team was most likely to crack a joke during play calls? Johnson could have named anyone. He could have offered a diplomatic answer. Instead, he broke ranks.
“Sometimes Dante farts in the huddle, and we have like a little competition of who can fart,” Johnson said, referring to Ducks quarterback Dante Moore. Greene documented it on X with the perfect setup: “Folks, I must inform you of the most important piece of info from Oregon’s Big 10 media day.”
The story spread instantly. It became the most talked-about item from an event that was supposed to be about Big Ten football and Oregon’s playoff push.
Moore handled it about as well as anyone could. “Oh my gosh. Who said that? JJ. I knew it,” the quarterback said with a grin. “Too much stuff is getting leaked out. You got to find ways to connect with your team. So we do that.”
He is not wrong about the connection part. Every locker room has its rituals. Some teams do handshakes. Some do chants. Oregon apparently does a fart-off competition inside the huddle. Weirder things have won championships.
The football part of the story is still real. Moore is a legitimate Heisman candidate. He was one of the top quarterbacks in the country last season and is a leading name in most 2027 NFL Draft conversations. Oregon is expected to be in the mix for a Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff run again this year under Dan Lanning. The Ducks return a bunch of pieces on offense and are the favorites in the Big Ten based on Vegas odds.
But the internet is going to remember this quote a lot longer than any preseason ranking. That is just how it works. A veteran quarterback with real NFL stock got fully outed at media day for a locker-room habit that most players keep buried. The clip is going to live forever. It is going to run on ESPN and every college football podcast this week.
Johnson probably heard some jokes about it from his teammates. Moore probably had to answer more follow-up questions than he wanted. Lanning probably shook his head and moved on to the next question.
Somewhere, an Ohio State fan is already ordering a fart-related t-shirt to wave in the crowd when Oregon comes to Columbus. Somewhere, a Michigan message board has already made twenty jokes about the Ducks stinking. And somewhere in Eugene, the offensive line is preparing to defend their quarterback in a whole new way.
The Ducks will be fine. Dante Moore will still be a great quarterback. And somewhere in the offensive huddle at Autzen Stadium this fall, there will be a very quiet competition happening while millions of people watch on TV, completely unaware.
