Paul Finebaum Has Message For Ohio State Fans

Paul Finebaum has a message for Ohio State after the program’s Fiesta Bowl defeat.

That message? Get over it.

Buckeyes fans have been very vocally upset over a couple of big calls that did not go their very in Saturday’s outing.

At least partially due to those specific calls, Clemson edged out Ohio State 29-23 to qualify for the National Championship Game.

In an interview with WJOX in Birmingham, Finebaum suggested that Ohio State’s defeat was not simply the product of bad calls. He believes it was the Buckeyes’ inability to convert on red zone opportunities early that led to their demise.

Specifically, Finebaum suggested that the 16-0 lead Ohio State got off to actually should have been much larger.

“That game should have been 28-0,” Finebaum said.

“It’s futile to come down and agonize over a call. Ohio State was on the verge of blowing them out, they didn’t, they lost the game, and I really don’t care anymore.”

While Finebaum doesn’t care anymore, Ohio State fans clearly do. Given the closeness of the game and the magnitude of the defeat, Buckeyes fans will likely be bitter about this one for some time.

    1. Remember a few years ago when Paul finebaum said, This country is not oppressing black people. Then the next day back tracked. I made a terrible mistake in trying to express a feeling I had no right to express. Why is this guy still around?

  1. Only SEC players, coaches and fans. Yes, they needed td’s over fg’s. But there were two inept calls that stole td’s from OSU. That, more than any other reason is why the Buckeye’s aren’t playing Jan. 13th against LSU.

  2. Paul Finebaum and his SEC officials and replay booth got what they wanted – playing Clemson instead of Ohio State against LSU. SEC has a better chance for a championship that way. Ohio State might have just kicked LSU’S butt.

      1. We will never know thanks to the SEC officials who blew at least one game changing call. OSU was the better team. They won every statistic; yards gained rushing, yards passing_yards time of possession, only the final score thanks to the refs

        1. WHO? Fine Bum! I bet all those SEC referees are paid servants with big sums of money (bribes)!!! DAMN CHEATERS YEAH, IT IS INTEGRITY. As a woman fan, I was so proud of Dobson when he caught the ball ran over the line Touchdown FOR SURE. Then gets pushed into a controlled somersault and immediately jumps up still holding the ball. Held onto it OVER THE LINE. THE POINTS WENT UP ON THE BOARD.
I BEG THE OFFICERS AT OSU TO LAWYER UP AND SUE THE S.E.C. REFEREES ASSOCIATION FOR CHEATING.
THAT Second Error rewatching the Clemson player catch a ball waist high then lift it up above his head and back down below his waist took seven seconds! Long time before he let’s it roll away to the inside and out on the field. Who there can say FUMBLE. RECOVERY AND OSU TOUCHDOWN!!!
College Ball Looks Like Downright Rotten Scoundrels! You’ll Lose Your Fans If You Go On With The CHEATING!

      2. I’ll guess you will never know….however I will pull for Joe and LSU. By the way..it should have been TOSU 38 clelemson 29..2 touches our fault. 2 replays fault. No the referees were not the problem..

    1. IT’S ALWAYS BEEN THIS IT’S A SHAME BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS IT WAS DESIGNED TO TRY TO KEEP THE BUG TEN OUT ONLY CALIFORNIA TEAMS AND SEC TEAM IN THE BIG BOWL EVEN GOING UNDEFEATED NO BIG BOWL FOR THE NORTHERN AND MIDWEST TEAMS THEY NEVER HAVE TO ENDURE OUR WEATHER IN THE BOWL ALWAYS TO THERE ADVANTAGE, NOW THE REFS THE OFFICIALS !!!! EVERYBODY SAW IT ACROSS THE COUNTRY THE BAD CALLS , TARGETING, NO !!! CALL BACK TWO TOUCHDOWNS NO!!! WHY WEREN’T THERE OTHER OFFICIALS FROM ANOTHER CONFERENCE AFFILIATING AND THE ILLINOIS VS CAL GAME BAD CALL !!!!! THE BIG TEN ALWAYS TARGETED EVERY YEAR WHEN WILL THIS BS STOP !!!!! IMPEACH THE HEAD OFFICIALS !!!!! AND ON BAD CALLS THAT COST A TEAM A GAME SHOULD BE REPLAYED ON A THURSDAY AND OFFICIALS SUSPENDED FOR THE SEASON OR THE NEXT NO PAY !!!!!!!

  3. I’m one of those OSU fans upset over bad calls, and in my mind SEC officials literally walking the football down the field for Clemson TD in the second quarter. I was foolish to expect anything less from the officials, but Paul is right about missed red zone opportunities. Add in injuries to Justin Fields and JK Dobbins and and it added up to a loss.

  4. Paul Finebaum is a hack mouthpiece for the SEC masquerading as a sports broadcast journalist. He witnessed his desired outcome of the Ohio State – Clemson game and now goes about telling anyone who did not like that outcome or the poor officiating calls during the contest to shut up. If an SEC team had lost a playoff game where referees from the Big 10 or PAC 12 had made similar calls against one of his preferred teams, he would now be using his national broadcast position to whine and carp about it. But, hey, hypocrits like him have no shame.

  5. This very brief article got to the point right away about the need for Buckeye fans to get over their angst of the recent CFP loss. I agree that I too was irritated by the loss particularly because of one TD called back especially. However, in this brief article there was an error in the forth paragraph that stood out like a sore thumb. “Buckeyes fans have been very vocally upset over a couple of big calls that did not go their “very . . . .” in Saturday’s outing”. Time for a new editor

    1. How much of “partially due to bad (erronious) calls determined the final out come? Did OSU fail to get tds in the red zone each time. Yes. Did the refs fail to call a clean game? Yes. Did instant replay not overturn a duly scored td by Dodson?
Yes. Did deliberate targeting on Dodson get ignored simply because it was his ankle and not his helmet? Yes.
This was unsuccessfully tried by MU and they were flagged for it. There are more ways to injure players than helmet hits.

  6. Maybe it’s a good thing Ohio state doesn’t have to face LSU. It would be even more of a butt kicking than what LSU did to Oklahoma. Then all of the crybabies from ohio state would really have something to cry about.

    1. Ohio State is 0-4 against CLEMSON..
Ohio State is 0-9 against an SEC team.
Better for Ohio State to cry now an get it out of their system.
Ohio State is going to the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME…Special Thank to Joe Burrows buying tickets so they can watch it in person…😂🤣😂🤣😂

    2. Shut the f*** up dude you don’t know what would of happened if Ohio State played LSU. Everyone thought Clemson was going to blow OSU out and that didn’t happen. If OSU didn’t shoot their own selves in the foot they would of beat that ugly ass long haired QB

  7. Could have, should have, if and buts, candy and nuts. Does not matter took 7 from bucks and game clemson another chance. Games about chances take away a bad OSU play give them amother chance. Diffrent outcome! Paul should go back to shilling for SEC!

  8. Most sports fans will take losing in stride when the game is called fairly and in fact will probably rag on their team for not performing at the level they are known to. This game clearly was not officiated fairly. If it was you wouldn’t have members of the media and NFL officials saying this SEC crew totally screwed up.
Lastly, let me just say there isn’t a fan in Buckeye Nation that gives a rat’s ass what Paul Finebaum says.

  9. Hey Paul, go stick a middle finger up your butt! You are nothing more than a ball-headed hack and nobody gives a sht about what YOU think! OSU already knows about their Red Zone failures and accept that but, that didn’t cost them the game…Your SEC officials DID! It was a FIX and YOU know it!! Sleep well!

  10. It’s not about sour grapes or being a crybaby. It’s about the integrity of the game! The SEC refs changed the momentum in the first half with a bogus Targeting call. When Ohio State took it back they squashed it with reversing a touchdown from an obvious fumble. It looks rigged. This isn’t the first time SEC refs made bad calls against Ohio State. The NFL has the same problem. Now they can’t fill seats. Officiating in general is very bad. The Saints vs Rams game In last years playoffs was an obvious bad call too. Something has to be done or football will go the way the dinosaurs went. It to can become extinct. As far as Paul Finebaum goes, his opinion shows his lack of understanding that things need to change. His remark is callous and his attitude is poor. The NFL is in decline because of people like Paul Finebaums opinions. The NFL dies and college football won’t be far behind. It should be about the integrity of the game. Everyone thought “fake news “ wasn’t real at first, but now we know that it is very true.

  11. Fuck you Finebaum, I doubt a single one of us OSU fans would disagree that OSU left points off the board in the redzone and that sucks for us…but that doesn’t excuse shit for brains decisions in replay reversing calls that were signaled on the field as a fumble and subsequent touchdown without clear and irrefutable evidence to the contrary. Then officials making dumbass statements in covering their ass that the ball was in the process of becoming loose. Every damn ball is in the process of coming loose at any moment until the play is dead and it hasn’t. That ball didn’t budge in the slightest in 4 steps all the while grabbing it out of the air, shifting it to the other side of his body them pulling it down to his waist…not even a millimeter…until it was stripped away. Hell, I’ll agree with the officials on Dobbins touchdown lunge, I’ll begrudgingly accept the targeting call and penalty except for the ejection as Laurence ducked his head into the path of Wade’s helmet, and I’ll partially agree on contact with the kicker although I don’t believe it was a 15 yard roughing the kicker, but a 5 yarder as the rusher was starting to pullback after the kick was off. But reversing the fumble touchdown is absolute horse shit and no one is going to just get over it when the implications could’ve meant an entirely different outcome. Yes OSU has their share of the blame but that doesn’t make blatant bullshit reversals ok especially when you get other officials and some being in the NFL stating it was absolutely a catch and no way should’ve been reversed. Worst case is the call on the field stands and isn’t confirmed but even that’s b.s. Eat a bag of em Finebaum.

  12. Bad calls were made. The Referees should look at definition of a catch. A pass stopped in the air and pulled down is a catch because it would have sailed by not caught. It was a fumble because of good defense in punching it out. This affects all college teams not just OSU. The review was wrong which is abhorrable. So what field goals were kicked. The TD call back was incorrect and all of football loving fans should be up in arms. Bad call directly affected final.

  13. Well, if Paul Finevmvaum says it, it must be the God-honest Gospel truth! But, his reasoning is a bit selective. His only valid point is we should have scored touchdowns instead of field-goal, although he does selectively forget the two blatantly bad calls in that time period.
What he does NOT comment on are the two touchdown costly reversals that, despite the 3 field goals, would have resulted in an OSU win.
Paul Finebaum has his head so far up the SEC’s collective a$#hole that his grasshopper looking eyeglasses are clearly smudged. I can say, he likely does have the perspective of what an ass-kicking feels like as the school playground has to have been a war zone for him!

  14. OHIO STATE HAS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF IN MY MIND YOU ARE STILL A UNDEAFTED NO.1 TEAM AND YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT THE OFFICIATING CREW WAS A TEAM YOU HAD TO PLAY EITHER YOU WHERE ROBBED SO YOU CAN HOLD YOUR HEADS UP YOU ARE STILL NO.1

  15. I agree that 3 trips to the red zone and only come up with FGs was a factor early in the game. However to reverse the call of a fumble recovery and score by Ohio State without compelling evidence (the officials can say what they want, it was a completed pass) is sooo bogus.
And just for the record Mr. Paul -go suck an egg!!

  16. Screw you dont tell me to get over it , the sec doesn’t like the big ten ,everytime the Buckeyes play a bi g team they take it in the rear end ,lets face it the sec is dishonest way dont you just become a used car salesman and i have more respect for a used car salesman

  17. WHO? College Ball Looks Like Downright Rotten Scoundrels! You’ll Lose Your Fans If You Go On With The CHEATING!

  18. Paul just retire know cares what think any ways. Your over paid trash who wants to starts stuff with Team’s, Fan’s, and coaches. I don’t know how you haven’t been fired for your mouth. Fan’s are backbone of every sport not you, and just so you know I’m not a OSU fan either. I am a SEC fan Paul.

  19. All I can say is it would have been Clemson punting when the targeting call was made so it would have been OhioState getting the ball back and no touchdown Clemson. So it would still been 16 nothing if the Buckeyes didn’t drive down and score. With all that said we still could have won the game . I do agree that the ref’s need fired so do the everyone else that was speaking out about there feeling of the play’s . Paul my other question to you is how do you slow replay down for jk touchdown but speed the catch fumble up to get the call you want.

  20. In bowl games they need to split officials, half and half.
If the rules are the same through and through then they should be able to work together.
Something needs to be done for future bowl games.

It’s too late for Ohio State this year but in future games it would be nice to only have to play against the other team and not the officials as well.

  21. While you are correct that OSU made several mistakes and left points on the table, it is ridiculous that a replay official determined the outcome of the game due to one (or 2) questionably reversed calls. All those players deserve their play, not some zebra in an office looking at a monitor, to determine the outcome of a game of that magnitude. The Ross fumble should not have overturned the call on the field, their was no ‘indisputable video evidence’ to overturn, and therefore the call on the field should have stood.

  22. Get over yourself Paul Finebaum. “Quite honestly” nobody cares about your thoughts and opinions. They are mute, spoiled, and lethargic like the rest of your simpleton reporting.

  23. Paul,

Once again, you have shared the obvious. Yes, the Buckeyes did plenty to shoot themselves in the foot. And I can even agree with the targeting call, although I believe the rule is clearly unfair to all who have been ejected lacking vicious intent or contributing factors. The rule needs a revision. Trevor Lawrence turned and ducked his head into the helmet of Shaun Wade who did not show obvious intent to initiate a helmet to.helnet collision. The tackle was fundamentally sound.

The second call on the Clemson fumble was clearly atrocious. I thought the standard in overturning a call on the field was by “incontrovertible evidence.” Three steps with the foot all firmly grasped by the receive is possession. Are we now changing the rule to argue that the ball.myst be tucked against the body?

In a game where one or two calls can clearly determine the outcome, I would have hoped for a higher standard of scrutiny. The officials clearly impacted the outcome of this game. Sad.

  24. Paul,

  25. You can’t blame the outcome on a single play, but it does beg to question what they saw in the replay that gave them cause to overturn the play as it was called on the field.

I would argue there was enough evidence to rule it a reception and scoop & score if the original call was incomplete.

    There needs to be accountability.

  26. Man why are people saying points were left on the field, OSU converted points every time they were in the Red Zone. Someone give the kicker some credit, I will, but they didnt leave points out there…they scored every time. Its obvious the game was rigged, I repeat OSU didnt waste any opportunities they basically had 3 touchdowns taken away by SEC officials, 1 for clemson and 2 touchdowns by OSU. Its obvious to me, its either gambling bribery or just typical cheating SEC behavior, someone out to check the lines and see where the over under bets et al were coming in. IDK SEC is still sore about the civil war…I get that, but I mean everyone in America saw the game get stolen from OSU and given to Clemson. I am in California so I dont have a dog in this fight, OSU was head and tails above Clemson, the officials then proceed to eject an OSU 1st round draft pick from the game. The game was rigged and the NCAA isnt going to sell the country this pile sh*t they are calling a Nat championship game to the rest of the country without OSU. It wasnt just one bad call, it was literally the officials walking clemson down to score for them on more than one occasion. Its simply unacceptable if you love the game of college football, and I am a little less in love after the Clemson OSU game, the officials obviously had and agenda, and IN THE BOOTH THAT IDIOT Talking about football moves was also on every fraudulent play scripted with the officials. THIS WAS PREPlANNED AND LOTS OF MONEY CHANGED HANDS. THE ANNOUNCER, YOU THAT REALLY ANNOYING AND SEC OFFICIATING WERE SYNCED…THIS WAS PLANNED BEFORE THE GAME. THE ANNOUNCER KNEW HOW EVERY CALL WAS GOING TO PLAY OUT, THAT ANNOYING MISTER “10 STEPS IS NOT A FOOTBALL MOVE UNLESS ITS FORWARD, ANNOUNCER” There was serious fraud going on and it needs to be investigated, but I aint gonna hold my breath as the NCAA becomes like WWE
