Colby Covington’s LeBron James Shirt Sparks Outrage (Video)

Colby Covington and LeBron James have been engaged in something of a feud over the past few months. This week, the UFC star turned things up a notch when he donned a shirt with a controversial message aimed at James.

In a video that has now amassed more than 67,000 views on Instagram, Covington can be seen wearing a “**** LeBron” shirt and going off on the Los Angeles Lakers star.

“Congratulations are in order for my good buddy, LeBron James,” he said.

“Congrats, LeBron. Congrats on setting the record for the least-watched NBA Finals in history. You wish you could blame it on the pandemic, but everybody’s just sick of your woke b******. And while the NBA ratings are down, UFC is up, just like our bank account.”

The NBA’s ratings and financial woes have been the subject of much conversation in recent months, so it’s clear why Covington opted to twist the knife in this fashion. He first called out James back in September of this year, following a big win over former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

“I want to dedicate this fight to all the first responders, all the military out there,” Covington said at the time.

“This world would not be safe without you guys, you keep us safe, and not these woke athletes. I’m sick of these spineless cowards like LeBron James.”

Multiple NBA players, including Kevin Durant, responded to Covington’s monologue, but James did not offer a reaction. Instead, some days later, he teed off on his haters in general when he said that, “Anybody can talk from outside. But if they got into the ring or they got into the arena, probably 10 times out of 10, they’d s— their pants.” Some perceived that to be a shot at Covington, though it was never officially confirmed.

Covington then ramped things up a notch by mocking the rumors involving James’ mother and troubled former NBA player, Delonte West. James did not take the bait, and the feud seemingly simmered out.

This week, Covington re-ignited it with his shirt and sarcastic congratulations for the Lakers star.

The origin of this bad blood seems to just be politics. James is an ardent Democrat and very public supporter of Joe Biden. Covington, conversely, is an extremely vocal ally of President Donald Trump.

Will James ultimately respond to his UFC counterpart? Based on everything we have seen up to this point, it seems unlikely. He will likely move on with his life and ignore Covington until he goes away.
