Cleveland Browns Close To Hiring Urban Meyer?

Are the Cleveland Browns close to hiring Urban Meyer?

Meyer, the former head coach at Ohio State, was widely thought of as a lock take over at USC following Clay Helton’s firing.

Then the Trojans went and hired themselves an athletic director who actually liked Helton, and that planned got turned on its head.

Now Meyer finds himself without an open college football position to chase, so he has turned his attention to the pro ranks.

Earlier this week rumors emerged that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was interested in bringing Meyer in to be his next head coach.

Haslam immediately came out after the fact and denied that this was the case. He insisted that he was only looking at people with professional experiment.

So who is ultimately telling the truth?

Well, according to Mary Kay Cabot – the answer is apparently Haslam.

Per Cabot’s report, Cleveland has not even scheduled an interview with Meyer yet.

Furthermore, according to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, there is a growing sentiment around the league that Meyer will not be coaching in the pro ranks in 2020.

“I think Urban would entertain it from what I’ve gathered,” Fowler said.

“There are a lot of people around the league that don’t believe Urban is going to be a NFL coach this year, they just think it’s a lot of smoke.”

Haslam purchased the Browns in 2012. Since then, he has not had a single coach last three years.

Will Meyer be the man to change all that? Based on the latest reports coming out of Cleveland, it is increasingly looking like the answer to that is no.
