Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and his girlfriend super model Olivia Culpo unexpectedly landed in the headlines last week.

During what was supposed to be a routine vacation to Cabo, McCaffrey and Culpo were reportedly flagged by security because her outfit was deemed too revealing.

Whether or not her outfit was in fact too revealing led to much debate online.

Either way, McCaffrey was forced to cover his better half up with a sweatshirt so that they could proceed with their trip.

In the aftermath, a clearly frustrated Culpo refused to let the issue slide. In fact, she event went so far as to put on an extremely racy dress and take a little shot at the airline in question over their handling of the situation:

For what it’s worth, the incident doesn’t appear to have ruined McCaffrey and Culpo’s trip. They seem to have still had a great time, if their Instagram photos are any indicator.

The pictures largely speak for themselves:

That said, the specter of the initial incident continued to follow them around. So much so, in fact, that Culpo’s outfit was even scrutinized upon her return:

This isn’t the first time McCaffrey and Culpo have landed in the news. Given the former’s knack for getting injured lately, there was a fairly serious conversation not long ago about whether the pair’s “intimate fun times” together are in somehow playing a role in him constantly being hurt.

The evidence was deemed inconclusive.

When McCaffrey signed a four-year, $64 million deal with the Panthers there was hope that he would turn into one of the NFL’s premiere running backs. Unfortunately, his inability to actually stay on the field has not only been damaging to Carolina’s offense, but also to the general idea that it’s safe to pay running backs big money.

Next year will be a big one for McCaffrey. Play time is over. He either needs to get it together, stay healthy and lead the Panthers somewhere meaningful a la Derrick Henry. Or Carolina needs to ship him off somewhere while it still can, get some draft capital back and began rebuilding anew.
