Chad Kelly Says It’s Lamar Jackson, Then Him

Indianapolis Colts backup quarterback Chad Kelly placed himself in rarefied air this week.

Kelly, whose prolific collegiate career included stints at Clemson, East Mississippi Community College and Ole Miss, was ultimately selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft with the very last pick by the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos never got much out of Kelly, and eventually released him in 2018 after an arrest.

Back in May of 2019, Kelly was picked up by the Colts. He is currently the team’s fourth-string quarterback.

This week, Kelly made headlines when he made something of a boastful statement on Twitter.

In Kelly’s estimation, he is the second-fastest quarterback in the league behind Baltimore Ravens superstar and league MVP Lamar Jackson.

Naturally, people could not help but laugh at this. The idea of Kelly beating the likes of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, New Orleans Saints dual-threat Taysom Hill, Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts and many others in a race seems like something of a joke.

All that being said, Kelly is still only 26 years old. You can’t really blame a kid for being confident in his skills, even if the confidence is likely a bit misplaced.
