Carolina Panthers Hiring Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald?

Are the Carolina Panthers hiring Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald to be the team’s next head coach?

According to a new report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Carolina reached out to Fitzgerald to gauge his interest in the role.

Based on his response, it appears the Panthers came away with the impression that he would not leave Northwestern for them.

Who would Fitzgerald leave the collegiate ranks for, though?

The Chicago Bears.

“The Carolina Panthers reached out to Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald about their vacancy, league sources said, though he opted not to formally interview for the position,” he wrote.

“There is a strong sense among NFL executives that if Fitzgerald ever did leave Northwestern, it would be for the Chicago Bears job.”

This not the first time Fitzgerald has been linked to a pro gig. Last year he reportedly interviewed for vacancies with the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers.
