Cam Newton Response To Panthers Coach Change Goes Viral

Cam Newton’s response to the Panthers’ coach change goes viral.

Newton, who made it to the Super Bowl in 2015 with Ron Rivera, seemed as surprised as anyone at the team’s decision to change head coaches on Tuesday.

Under Rivera Carolina went 76-63-1 and reached the postseason four times. He was a two-time league Coach of the Year and his success was very closely aligned with Newton’s.

Newton was ultimately drafted No. 1 overall just a few months after Rivera was named the Panthers coach in 2011.

After news of Rivera’s firing hit, Newton sent out a social media post hat immediately went viral.

“This one hurt deep,” he wrote.

Newton then added that he “will forever be grateful because of the impact you had on my life.”

Among the things Newton was grateful for included Rivera giving him an opportunity, believing in him and allowing him to be himself.

It remains to be seen what Carolina’s decision to rid itself of Rivera will mean for Newton’s future.

There has been a lot of speculation that the Panthers will part ways with their star quarterback this summer, and Rivera’s departure may be the final nail in the coffin.
