Ben Simmons’ relationship with the Philadelphia 76ers seems to be beyond salvaging at this point. There have been numerous stories in recent days about the ‘extreme lengths’ he is prepared to go to in order to get dealt, and they just so happen to coincide perfectly with leaks about Philly trying to move him ASAP.

By all accounts, it feels like the relationship in its present state isn’t working out well for either side.

Change feels inevitable.

This week, Simmons offered something of a cryptic Instagram post:

“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones,” the caption read.

Simmons’ relationship with the Sixers fell apart following their disappointing elimination in the second round of the playoffs at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks. Not only was the 25-year-old awful in that series, but he was so bad that it led to both his teammate Joel Embiid and head coach Doc Rivers publicly calling him out for his offensive ineptness.

That last bit resulted in a war of words between Simmons’ camp and Embiid’s camp which seemingly put the nail in the coffin of their relationship once and for all.

In the months since, the Sixers put their asking price for Simmons out there. Thus far, despite 5 very serious suitors emerging for his services, none have been willing to meet that price.

Until that changes, the ongoing standoff between Simmons and the Sixers will continue. Whether or not it will somehow get resolved before the start of next season remains to be seen.
