Ben Roethlisberger Responds To Steelers Run Game Criticism

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 10-0 and could ostensibly get to at least 14-0 this season if they get past the Baltimore Ravens this coming week. On paper, there is very little to take issue with when it comes to this unit.

That said – folks always find something to criticize. In Pittsburgh’s case, it’s the run game. Currently, the team ranks 21st in the league with 102.2 rushing yards per game.

On Tuesday, Roethlisberger was asked if the Steelers need to put a greater emphasis on getting the running game right.

“We quote-unquote need to run the football X amount of times? No we don’t,” Roethlisberger replied. “We need to win the football game.”

Given how solid his squad has looked all year, it’s understandable that Roethlisberger would be a little salty about folks pointing at perceived flaws.

Pittsburgh currently ranks fourth in the NFL in total scoring with 29.8 points per game.

“We’re not chasing perfection in terms of a perfect 16-0,” he said this week regarding the team’s undefeated mark.

“We’re chasing Lombardis. That’s the most important thing for us.”

That said, Roethlisberger also understands that the path to that trophy is good offensive play.

“We got to put more points on the board,” he acknowledged. “I know what the scoreboard says, but there were too many times we punted and didn’t do enough. Offensively, we’re happy we got the win, but we know we have to be better.”
