The 76ers made a surprising Joel Embiid injury update on Friday.

Embiid has been out for more than two weeks due to a hand issue, but it appears relief may be in sight.

The talented center practiced for the first time today and told the media that he is hoping to suit up at some point next week.

“Just trying to get back into it and make the progress that’s necessary,” he said.

“But I feel good. … I think my finger feels good.

“Right now we are sixth in the East. Next week, I’m hoping to play.”

When Embiid got hurt, the prognosis was sitting out for two weeks after his surgery. From there, he was due to be re-evaluated.

Seeing as he is now talking about playing again in the foreseeable future, it safe to assume that Embiid’s re-evaluation went well.

So far this year Embiid is averaging 23.4 points and 12.3 boards per game.

Philly went 5-3 in the eight games he has sat out.

Next up for the Sixers will be a home game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night.
